WOMEN'S HEALTH PHYSICAL THERAPY

Personalized Care in a Supportive, Private Setting

Women’s health physical therapy is specialized treatment for women throughout their lifespan with focus on transitional stages in life such as pregnancy, post-partum, and peri menopausal.   Conditions treated include urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence and urgency, pelvic organ prolapse, diastasis recti, abdominal weakness, constipation, pelvic pain, back pain, pain with intercourse, and more.
Depending on your specific condition, pelvic floor rehabilitation may be utilized in conjunction with traditional types of physical therapy.  The organs of your pelvic region are supported by muscles.  The muscles of your pelvic floor can become weak or tight just like any other muscle in your body.  The goal of physical therapy is to stretch, strengthen and balance these muscles so they can return to optimal function.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT

The first session we talk A LOT so we can get to know you, your lifestyle and your goals for PT.  The next part of the session is an external evaluation of your flexibility, strength, and ability to move in and out of different positions that are relevant for your life.  For some conditions an internal assessment of your pelvic floor muscles may be necessary.  Everything will be explained specific to your condition and we will only proceed with your consent.  If you are comfortable proceeding, we will observe, gently palpate, and test your pelvic floor strength.  This gives us an understanding of how your body is working and will help guide our treatment.

Pelvic rehabilitation is a team approach.  We are here to guide you, but we are working toward YOUR goals and you have total control of what happens or does not happen.  Every session is different because every woman is different.
